Qualcomm has officially confirmed its next flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, marking the fifth generation of its premium 8-series. Positioned above the rumoured 8 Gen 5 and 8s Gen 5, the Elite branding promises unmatched performance and innovation. Built on TSMC’s 3 nm N3P process with custom Oryon CPU cores reaching up to 4.74 GHz and an Adreno 840 GPU, early benchmarks hint at record-breaking performance. The official launch is set for September 23, 2025, at the Snapdragon Summit, unveiling devices powered by this cutting-edge platform and signaling a new era for high-end mobile performance.
Qualcomm has officially confirmed what many leaks had already suggested: its next flagship smartphone platform will indeed be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The confirmation came directly from the company’s OnQ Blog, ending speculation that started when tipster Digital Chat Station first hinted at the name.
Qualcomm clarified that the naming marks a continuation of its roadmap rather than a reset. The “Gen 5” designation represents the fifth generation of its premium 8-series platforms since the company adopted the single-digit naming structure.
In Qualcomm’s own words, “Think of it like this: Gen 5 isn’t just a number. It’s a signal that this platform will lead the family forward.”
At the same time, the “Elite” branding remains reserved for its most powerful platforms, described by Qualcomm as products that “push boundaries in capability, experience and innovation.” This makes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 the flagship product in the portfolio, above the rumored 8 Gen 5 and 8s Gen 5.
Still, Qualcomm also seems to have skipped directly past the 8 Elite Gen 2, Gen 3, and Gen 4, jumping straight to the Gen 5. Hopefully, we will get used to this naming soon, and Qualcomm does not change it again next year.
Leaks suggest that beyond the name, the hardware itself is a significant leap forward. The chipset is reportedly built on TSMC’s advanced 3 nm N3P process, which is expected to bring notable efficiency improvements.
It will continue with custom Qualcomm Oryon CPU cores, capable of pushing clock speeds up to 4.6 GHz and even 4.74 GHz for the “For Galaxy” edition. On the graphics side, an Adreno 840 GPU is expected.
Benchmark leaks already paint a promising picture. On Geekbench, the chipset reportedly hits 3,400 points in single-core and 11,000 in multi-core, while AnTuTu scores are said to reach an unprecedented 4.2 to 4.4 million points, a massive jump over its predecessor.
As mentioned earlier, the flagship chipset is also expected to be joined by other members of the lineup, with leaks pointing to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 8s Gen 5, rounding out Qualcomm’s new approach to high-end performance.
The official debut of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is locked in for September 23, 2025, at the Snapdragon Summit, where Qualcomm will reveal the full details and showcase the first wave of devices powered by its new platform. What are your thoughts on the naming? Do you think it is strange? Let us know in the comments section below.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 cements Qualcomm’s position at the forefront of mobile innovation, combining blazing CPU speeds, cutting-edge GPU performance, and remarkable efficiency on the advanced 3 nm process. As the flagship of the Snapdragon 8-series lineup, it not only raises the bar for high-end smartphones but also signals a bold step forward in chipset design and capability. With benchmarks already hinting at record-breaking performance, the official launch promises to showcase devices that truly redefine mobile power and user experience. Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is more than a chipset; it is the new standard for flagship performance.
